1979 President- Philip Bullin, WD4EQL

January, 1979 - Dues are increased from $5 per year to $7 per year.

September, 1979 - FCARES installs the 04/64 repeater in Winston-Salem for testing.


1978 President - Sam Mooney, WA4WKW

January, 1978 - WD4LZK, the club call, makes ten 10 meter contacts to qualify for a 10x number. The club was issued the 10-10 number 19200.

April, 1978 - The club votes to purchase 2m rigs, supplies and antennas for a link between a clinic and a hospital in Nicaragua.

October, 1978 - An amendment to the FARC bylaws which would give all past presidents of the club life membership is defeated.


1977 President- Furman Doty, WA4HRD

May, 1977 - Club votes to reimburse the club President for coffee and donuts which, in the past, the President has been responsible for.

June, 1977 - The FARC flies its new banner, donated by Pearl Cohen, at Field Day. The banner proved to be lucky, as W4NC placed first in NC-3A category, and 21st in 4 land. That same month, the FARC was notified and certified as a 100% ARRL membership club.

November, 1977 - The club station at the Nature Science Park is open for business- Weekend hours are set up for club member use.


1976 President- Jerryl Sears, WB4JGZ

July, 1976 - FARC officially re-affiliates with the ARRL. Later in the summer, the club sets up booths at two separate events to put the club and Amateur Radio into the public spotlight, including the Dixie Classic Fair and the CB Jamboree.


1975 President - Chuck Brydges, W4WXZ

April, 1975 - The Nature Science Park agrees to an amateur radio exhibit in the building. FARC meetings are moved to the theater here.

May, 1975 - The radio equipment estate of long time WSARC member Herman Jolitz, W4DCQ was donated to the club for installation in the Science center display. The equipment includes HF and VHF gear as well as an extensive transmitting tube collection.


1974 President - Chuck Brydges, W4WXZ

November, 1974 - The club looks to incorporate officially as a non-profit organization in order to properly issue receipts for donated items.


1973 President - Dwight Jester, WB4SJW

June, 1973 - WR4ACA, Bob Reagan's 2m repeater on 04/64 is installed at Baptist Hospital, lightening the load for repeater WR4AAA, Bob Parris' machine in Salisbury (which was relied on heavily by hams in the Winston-Salem area.)

April, 1973 - The FARC petitions the state of NC not to raise the ham plate fees from $1 to $5, citing many examples of commitment to public service by the hobby. The increase of fee legislation fails due to the outpouring of complaints from the ham community.


1972 President ?

The club holds a foxhunt, and to raise money, they charge 50 cents per car to participate in the prizes.


1971 - President ?

April, 1971 - Longtime W4NC trustee and original club member Clyde Brewer, W4RA passes away. July, 1971 - W4NC trusteeship is passed to Clarence Mowery, W4ISH, as voted by the remaining active members of the Winston-Salem Amateur Radio Club, Inc.
